It really depends on what the developers of a certain Linux desktop are going for? Nothing replaces the need for the proper amount of RAM to run what you do. RAM is the most efficient memory in a PC. Swap is OK if you have a decent type of storage memory that is fast. Otherwise, its a big handicap. I’ve seen some horrible results in RAM consumption from things like fractional scaling, and bad memory leak apps.
