So I too never saw that happening in real world cases.
Probably, only possibility is to overload the server and make it unresponsive enough so that watchdog will have some job to do. But if the system is hanging, I don’t know whether we should expect a good kernel message.

I was curios, when watchdog (softdog) triggers restart do you receive info in the OS log that restart is triggered by the watchdog?
Something like “softdog: Initiating system reboot”…

I have executed few tests and there was not any info to distinguish when watchdog triggered restart.
