I hinted someone (possibly you) about Heikki Tuuri’s 40th birthday that coincident with that event. The Master Lock was a nice present, and possibly a hint towards the infamous kernel_mutex that was later split into trx_sys->mutex, lock_sys->mutex, trx->mutex, and possibly rseg->mutex. I think that the last pieces of contention around those were removed in MariaDB Server 10.6. The trx_sys.mutex had already been fixed in the 10.3 release.
